XY Base Bet Card Review! #4 Kakuna

The Basics:
The Pokemon card that I want to review today is the Kakuna card from the XY Base Set. It is card number 4 out of 146. This is my fourth Pokemon card review ever, and I am excited to be doing several more of these in the future. Kakuna is a stage one grass-type Pokemon with 70 HP. It has a weakness of x2 against fire-type Pokemon. Kakuna only has one attack Harden that prevents all damage done to Kakuna under 60 HP. Harden takes a total of 1 grass-type energy card. The retreat cost of this card is 2 energy cards of any type.

The Strategy:
As far as a strategy for Kakuna goes, Kakuna is a stage one Pokemon with its basic Pokemon being Weedle and its stage 2  Pokemon being Beedrill. Weedle was reviewed yesterday and I reccommend checking that review out, and Beedrill will be reviewed tomorrow. Eventhough you would want to have this entire evolutionary chain in your 60 card deck this review is going to focus on solely the Kakuna stage 1 card. On its own I would not suggest using this card as a stage one type Pokemon, Kakuna's low HP and attack that does no damage but prevents damage can certainly stall a match that is in the beginning stages until you are able to evolve Kakuna into Beedrill. Another strategy that can be used is to use Kakuna as a set up Pokemon. You can use Harden every move while you begin to set up your bench. This is the strategy that I would prefer to use if Kakuna was in my 60 card deck. I would not put any more then 2 or 3 of these cards in my deck.

The Rating:
I would give this card a rating of 6/10 for a stage one Pokemon Card. This is an average card that can be relatively useful if it is utilized in the early stages of the match. The fact that Kakuna can be utilized as both a set up Pokemon and as a Pokemon that can evolve into Beedrill makes Kakuna a very usable card in a 60 card deck.  You could easily build a deck that utilized Kakuna and his evolutionary chain.
